Rules
Koreans are very friendly and hospitable, however the specific nature of the politic system leaves traces on the daily life not only citizens but tourists as well. Please take notice of following rules and keep to them during staying in DPRK.
1). Freedom of travel in the country is restricted, therefore leaving the hotel without the guides is not possible. Even if you have individual tour and want to go for a walk to the city contact your guides please and they will do their best to make it possible.
2). Books/articles about North Korea printed in the West and South Korea, drugs and pornography are forbidden to bring to DPRK. Mobile phones will confiscate at the border and give back to you on your return. Laptops, MP-3 players and cameras are OK to take in, but remember that it is not possible to use Internet in North Korea.
3). There are also restrictions to take pictures in DPRK. You can only take a photograph of what the guides allow. Taking photos of soldiers, some military objects and people without their permission will cause serious problems.
Tips
1). Please be wearing formally while visiting Kumsusang Memorial Palace (Mausoleum) or Revolutionary Martyrs' cemetery. Jeans, t-shirts and mini-skirts are not acceptable.
2). Electricity shortages can occur from time to time, that is why we recommend to bring a pocket light with you.
3). Foreign tourists cannot use local currency. The best currency to take with you is EURO (USD and Chinese Yuan are also OK) - cash only! There is no limit on import currency. Credit cards are not accepted.
4). There is international telephone connection in the hotels, 1 min of connection is cost about 5 EURO.
5). If you need some medicines that you normally use take care about that please and bring it enough with you.
6). You can bring some souvenirs and presents for guides and driver (chocolate, cigarettes etc.), tips are appropriate.
Do not forget please we are guests in the DPRK, therefore we ask our tourists to respect the Korean traditions, including their vision of the Great Leader.
Attention! According to law of DPRK for professional journalists and photographers (full or part-time) traveling to North Korea with tourist visas is prohibited. They have to obtain special permission.
